US fighter jet makes impressive vertical landing during military drill
This is the dramatic moment a fighter jet executed an impressive vertical landing during a military drill.
Footage shows a US Marine Corps F-35B Lightning II performing a straight-down descent at night aboard the USS America over the Philippine Sea on May 31.
The exercise took place during flight operations conducted by Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 242 of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU).
Operating within the U.S. 7th Fleet area of responsibility, the 31st MEU supports combined and joint missions across key maritime regions.
Officials said the scene demonstrates the aircraft's short takeoff and vertical landing (STOVL) capability, part of its broader fifth-generation design features.
