This is the mesmerising moment a time-lapse captured the stunning colours of the Northern Lights above Brittany.

Footage captured by Miossec Matteo shows the aurora borealis glowing bright green and faint pink over the Phare de l'Ile Vierge on January 19.

The event marked a rare aurora sighting at this southern latitude, with Brittany sitting around 48 degrees north, well below the usual viewing zones.

Reports said the display coincided with heightened geomagnetic activity in mid-January 2026, linked to disturbances during the declining phase of Solar Cycle 25.

The aurora borealis, also known as the northern lights, is a natural light display caused by charged particles from the Sun interacting with Earth's magnetic field and atmosphere.
