Los Angeles, United States - June 14, 2025 06/14/2025 02:00 pm GMT-0700 DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Thousands of protesters took to the streets across the nation this morning, including in Los Angeles, to denounce President Donald Trump’s policies during a demonstration dubbed “No Kings Day.” The No Kings protest in Los Angeles was fueled by recent actions of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in the city and Trump’s decision to mobilize the National Guard to assist federal agents during last week’s demonstrations. No Kings Day coincides with a parade in Washington, D.C., which marks the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States Army, and also falls on the president's 79th birthday. Last week’s protests against ICE in downtown Los Angeles began peacefully but escalated into violence, resulting in injuries to both protesters and law enforcement, as well as significant property damage. Law enforcement agencies in Los Angeles are preparing for large crowds during the No Kings march and are taking precautions to address any potential violent outbreaks. Interview Transcript: "S-I-M-M-O-N-S] And what are you doing here today?(...) I'm here just as an American citizen standing up against this fascist takeover of our country. Just doing what I can to help raise awareness and communicate with others and build communities so that we as the people of the United States can take back the country that belongs to us. And today, I mean, you can be at home, just relaxing. You chose to come out here on the hottest day of the year so far.(...) Why do you feel too cold for you to be here in the present in this moment?(...) I am here to give a voice to those who are voiceless right now, those who maybe don't have the privilege to be able to come out today. Maybe they have already been threatened. Maybe they have been sent somewhere against their will.(...) And just for all of our ancestors of the past, it's never been an easy time to be an American. I mean, there have been revolutions throughout the world, throughout different countries, and it's our time to stand up. Unfortunately, this is the period history repeats itself. So I just couldn't sit home and let it happen when I've got the ability to be out here today."
