China: Shore-to-ship drone deliveries become regular in E China
Storyline: Shore-to-ship drone deliveries become regular in E China [Voice_over] On China's Yangtze River, the world's busiest inland waterway, sailors are getting used to a new time saving luxury- drones, not ships, that deliver their daily supplies. In the past, sailors relied on transport boats for their necessities, which was time-consuming and costly. Now, with a few taps on their phone, supplies can be delivered by air in just minutes. Officials from Zhenjiang Maritime Bureau in east China's Jiangsu Province said drone deliveries are quicker, cheaper and more eco-friendly. [Sound_bite] Ge Xinliang, Third-Grade Officer, Maritime Supervision Section, Dagang Maritime Office, Zhenjiang Maritime Bureau: "Drone delivery not only helps crew members save time and money, but also reduces the traffic of transport boats. A single delivery can reduce carbon emissions by about 15 kilograms." [Voice_over] Logistics is one of the biggest winners of China's "drone revolution," as the country's low-altitude economy aims for the sky. Data from the Ministry of Transport reveals that around 2.7 million parcels were delivered by drones across the country in 2024. The market research company Mordor Intelligence predicts that the global market for delivery drones will be valued at about 1 billion U.S. dollars by the end of this year, and about 4.4 billion by the year 2030.
