Emergency service crews are investigating a suspected gas explosion at a house on a quiet east London street this morning (Tues).

Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters were called to a property on Dumont Road in Stoke Newington in the early hours.

London Fire Brigade (LFB) said the incident was under control by 5:42am.

However, a cordon remains in place and a joint probe has been launched with the Metropolitan Police.

It is currently unclear if there are any injuries.

LFB station commander Darren McTernan said: "Motorists and pedestrians are advised to avoid the area for most of this morning while investigations into the cause of this incident are carried out."

"There are road closures in place on Stoke Newington Church Street from the junction of the A10 to Defoe Road. Residents should also note that Kersley Road is completely shut at this time."

The Metropolitan Police was approached for comment.
