A driver was amused when her Tesla misidentified an elderly woman walking with a Zimmer frame as a motorcycle rider.

Footage shows the dashboard display tracking nearby vehicles on the road, including what appeared to be a motorbike in the opposite lane in Chicago, Illinois.

But when car owner Yuliya looked through the windshield, the ‘bike' was actually a grandmother using a wheeled mobility walker.

She and her friend burst into laughter as the woman turned at the intersection with the Tesla still registering her as a two-wheeler.

She said: 'A Tesla sensor detected an elderly woman using a walker and mistakenly classified it as a bike.'

Tesla, run by eccentric billionaire Elon Musk, is one of the world's biggest makes of electric cars. However, the company's future growth is pinned on its self-driving technology, which it hopes will make its Robotaxis successful.

Waymo, owner by Google, already has self-driving taxis operating in a number of states.
