Boy Falls Into Filthy Indian River While Trying to Save a Cat — The Viral Video That Shook the Internet
1. What exactly is happening in the video?
While I was livestreaming on TikTok in the streets of Mumbai, India, I heard a cat crying in distress. I followed the sound and found a young boy, about 13 years old, trying to save the cat. The animal was stuck on a floating pile of garbage in a toxic black river, right beside a large rat.
The boy courageously reached out his hand. The cat made an incredible jump and latched onto the boy's hand with its claws. The pain and shock made him lose balance, and both fell into the filthy water.
What made me furious is that no one helped. Several people were watching, and I was struggling to pull the child out because the river is very low and difficult to access from street level. I had to put my phone down, lean dangerously forward, and use both hands to pull him out by myself.
I resumed filming just after the rescue. The boy, clearly in shock, was focused on the pain in his hand. It was bleeding from the cat's claws and had been exposed to the polluted water. I immediately guided him to a nearby water tap so he could rinse it, despite the language barrier.
2. Who is involved?
The boy is around 13 years old. I don’t know his name, as we couldn’t communicate due to the language barrier.
I’m Saïd Aziza. I’m 33 years old and I’m a Belgian traveler. I was on a long journey through India when this scene happened.
I’m also known as Saidblogger, and I am the one who filmed this video.
3. Where, specifically, did it happen?
The incident happened in the Saki Naka area of Mumbai, India, close to the guesthouse where I was staying.
4. When, specifically, did it happen?
It took place on January 30, 2024.
5. Who filmed the video and on what device was it filmed?
I filmed it myself, Saïd Aziza (Saidblogger), using a Vivo X80 Pro smartphone during a TikTok live broadcast.
6. Why did it happen?
The child was acting on instinct and compassion. He didn’t hesitate to try to save the cat. When the animal latched onto his hand, the pain, weight, and sudden imbalance likely caused him to fall.
It is also possible that he instinctively let himself fall because the pain was too intense and the cat would not release its grip.
7. Have you shared this video with any other licensing agencies (e.g. LADbible, Storyful, Viralhog, Jukin) before Newsflare?
No.
This video is exclusively licensed to Newsflare.
I have received several licensing requests on Instagram but ignored them due to concerns about scams or copyright misuse.
8. Any additional information?
Around 1,000 people were watching my TikTok Live at the time.
Afterwards, I downloaded the livestream, extracted the most powerful moment, and posted it as a short Reel on Instagram. That 7 second version showing the cat jumping, grabbing the boy’s hand, and the two falling went viral and reached:
• 334 million views
• 7.3 million likes
• Over 5.1 million shares
Its impact came from the authenticity, emotional intensity, and shocking twist.
