Extreme weather brought by Cyclone Yaas has seen a waterfall overflow in close proximity to a town in Tamil Nadu, southern India.

Footage from May 26 shows the Thirparappu waterfall cascading nearby the town, flooding numerous streets.

Residents living near the banks have been evacuated.

Very severe cyclonic storm Yaas started battering the northern coastline of Odisha with powerful winds and rains on Wednesday morning as it made landfall at Bahanaga block around 9am with sustained wind speed of 130 to 140 kmph gusting up to 155 kmph.

Cyclone Yaas effect was also felt the southern most tip of India that is the kanniyakumari district. Rains lashed the district from yesterday and many areas were seen flooding. Dams located in that area were already filled and excess water has been opened up on the river.

People living near the river banks are evacuated. 11000 cubic feet of water has been released in the river. As a result the Thirparrapu falls has been flooding beyond the safety barricades. "It was extremely danger even for the journalist to reach that place to have a good shot" said a journalist who visited the place to take visuals of the Thirparappu falls.



Water rushing beyond the safety barricades as severe rains lashed the area due to the Cyclone Yaas. Public are prohibited in entering the extremely dangerous water falls.
