Twin Waterspouts Stun Boaters On Manatee River
Bradenton, Florida – A routine boat trip turned into a breathtaking encounter on Sunday when twin waterspouts suddenly formed over the Manatee River.
Jeni Scheid, 41, was on board with her husband, D.J., a friend, and other family members when the sky began to darken. As the rain started pouring, they decided to head back to shore.
That’s when D.J. noticed something unusual—water churning just 200 feet from their boat.
“That’s going to be a waterspout,” he said.
Moments later, two funnel-shaped clouds spiraled down from the sky. The group watched in awe as twin waterspouts took shape right before their eyes.
“It looked like something from a movie,” Jeni said, after capturing the dramatic scene on video.
Fortunately, the waterspouts moved slowly and stayed at a distance. Unlike tornadoes, they kicked up no debris, easing the group’s fears.
Once back on land, the Scheids learned others had also spotted the massive funnels from afar.
The storm system responsible had also produced a single waterspout earlier in Tampa Bay.
No damage or landfall was reported.
The National Weather Service advises boaters to steer clear of waterspouts, warning they can be just as dangerous as tornadoes.
