Hurricane Rafael Leaves Jamaican Village Submerged In Debris-Filled Floodwaters
Video posted by X user Briii Lovee on October 29, 2025, reveals the devastation left behind by Hurricane Rafael in the rural community of New Market under gray skies and a fading sunset.
A man wearing a blue T-shirt and red shorts wades slowly through ankle-deep brown water, surrounded by heaps of debris. Collapsed shanties scatter the area—mangled tin roofs, splintered planks, and concrete fragments floating among reeds and trash.
In the background, leaning power poles and mist-covered hills frame the destruction. The camera pans along a narrow asphalt road turned shallow stream, where floodwater surges six to twelve inches deep through the verge.
Lush hillsides rise beyond swaying palms and white fences. Two people skirt the edge of the road, picking their way past large puddles as debris drifts nearby.
Later shots widen to show floodwater stretching across low-lying fields and village yards, submerging homes up to two feet deep. Blue and silver tin sheets, tangled wires, and uprooted trees swirl past stilted black shacks on the brink of collapse.
As evening deepens, a faint orange reflection glimmers across the rippling surface, broken by a drifting boat hull and distant silhouettes surveying the storm’s silent wreckage.
