This is the shocking moment a wheelchair user was dragged down a street after getting stuck in front of a lorry.

Luiz Jaeger, 68, was swept along the road by the truck after being snagged on its bumper in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.

CCTV footage shows the speeding 10-wheeler tipper manoeuvring on the motorway while the elderly man clung to the lorry, extending one of his arms to stop his chair from slipping under its tyres.

Local media reported that the driver was eventually forced to stop by horrified passersby and fled the truck, fearing an angry mob would attack him on June 23.

Luiz's granddaughter, Nicolly Jaeger, said: 'They started screaming, trying to warn him, and thank God he stopped, and they managed to get the wheelchair untangled.'

The victim recalled that he was wheeling himself to the shops when he was scooped up by the lorry and pushed down the road at about 40mph.

The pensioner reportedly survived the incident with barely a scratch.

Nicolly said the area has no pavement, which caused her grandfather to become swept up by the unsuspecting trucker.

She added: 'We're all very relieved because, frankly, we could have been burying him.

'He's still in shock, he can't explain what happened. He didn't want to go to the hospital and said he was fine, just with back pain because of the impact. We brought him home and, since then, he has been at home.'

Police are currently investigating the incident.
