Girl, four, insists she's a Muslim and wants to a wear hijab just like her friend
A little girl had a meltdown because she wanted to be Muslim and wear a hijab—just like her friend.
A video shows four-year-old Cheri-Ann Williamson in tears and then suddenly all smiles once she has a hijab on.
Cheri-Ann became curious about the religion after hearing about Eid and spotting holiday decorations in the supermarket earlier this year.
Her mum Shonnette Byfield Samuels, 36, says Cheri-Ann now wears a hijab daily, proudly calls herself a Muslim and even corrects family members who say otherwise.
Shonnette, a chef from London, UK, said: "Cheri thinks the hijab is beautiful and says she feels like a princess in it."
"Yesterday, she walked out of the house and then came back saying, 'I forgot my hijab.'"
"I told her it was too hot, but she gave me a look and walked off."
Raised Christian, Shonnette said her daughter first mentioned Islam around the time of Eid.
She said: "She saw decorations for the holiday in Tesco and came home asking if we could decorate our house for Eid. "
"I told her we don't celebrate it but she insisted that we do. "
"She recognised the decorations straight away."
Although Shonnette isn't religious herself, she supports her daughter's curiosity and has even ordered children's books about Islam so they can learn more together.
Shonnette said: "I don't have a problem with it. "
"I believe there's one God, and from what I know, Islam is about peace."
"I've ordered us some beginner books like children's stories about Islam so we can learn together."
"My grandma even said ‘Don't you think it's a sign?'"
"Her mum was Muslim and now my youngest child, out of nowhere, is the one talking about religion."
Cheri-Ann has also started asking questions about God and now introduces herself to others as Muslim.
Shonnette said: "She told me 'Muslims say kind words' "
"The other day she was saying 'Salam Alaykum'"
"She hasn't talked about praying yet but she's asked questions like ‘Why did God create this?' and ‘Why did God create that?'"
"She talks about it every day and tells everyone around her that she's Muslim."
