Debris flies through streets as Typhoon Danas hits Taiwan
Debris from damaged buildings flew through the streets as Typhoon Danas lashed Taiwan.
Footage shows metal roof sheets plunging onto a car park as the gales hammered a residential area in Tainan on Sunday evening.
Residents screamed as the zinc roofing was ripped from homes before crashing onto the pavement.
Onlooker Cindy said: 'I want to cry because my car was hit by a metal sheet. Now there are pieces of metal lying outside on the street and we don't know how to handle it. It might flood next.'
Typhoon Danas made landfall in Taiwan after nightfall on July 6, killing two and injuring more than 500 as it pounded the island's western coast.
One person was crushed by a falling tree while driving, and another died after a power cut caused his respirator to malfunction.
Authorities said the Danas knocked down power to almost 700,000 homes and disrupted more than 300 domestic and international flights.
Danas was reportedly the first typhoon to touch down in Taiwan's Chiayi County, in a rare and devastating hit.
It has greatly weakened after making landfall, and was expected to hit China's Zhejiang province late on Tuesday, July 8.
