West Midlands Police and forensics at the scene of a brutal attack on an American man on Springfield Road in the Kings Heath area of Birmingham.
Craig Dean was seriously assaulted at around 5pm on Monday 7th July and was taken to hospital but succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday 9 July.
First aid including a Bleed Control Kit and defibrillator could be seen on the ground of a driveway just off the road.
A forensics officer took blood swabs and bagged a bloodied towel as evidence.
West Midlands Police said in a statement on Thursday 10 July:
We've launched a murder investigation after a man found with serious injuries in Kings Heath has tragically died.
Craig Dean was attacked in Springfield Road at around 5pm on Monday (7 July).
The 53-year-old, known locally as Yankee, was taken to hospital but sadly died yesterday.
Our thoughts and support are with his loved ones at this devastating time.
A 26-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident. He has been bailed with conditions while enquiries continue.
We're continuing to ask for anyone with information to come forward.
We're particularly interested in anyone with CCTV, dashcam or mobile phone footage.
Detective Inspector Dan Jarratt, who is now leading the investigation, said: "A man has sadly died and our thoughts are with his loved ones at this awful time.
"We're working to establish exactly what happened, and who was involved.
"There were people in the area at the time who we need to speak with, and we believe there are others who can help us. We'd ask them to contact us as soon as possible.
"Any information you have could be vital in bringing justice for Mr Dean and his family."
