Be'eri, Israel - July 10, 2025 Israeli police thwarted an extortion and theft attempt targeting reconstruction projects in the Gaza Envelope region. A covert investigation led by the Central Unit (Yamar) revealed a systematic effort by suspects from Bedouin communities in the south to extort protection money from companies, contractors, and service providers working in the area. During the operation, suspects were documented stealing a tractor from Kibbutz Be’eri and were immediately apprehended. In a parallel joint effort with special units, another stolen tractor was recovered. The investigation is ongoing, and indictments are expected soon. Police emphasize their continued efforts to combat extortion and ensure the safety of national infrastructure projects and workers.
