Runaway truck tyre skims heads of gas station workers in terrifying close call captured on CCTV
On June 28 in Shijiazhuang, Hebei Province, a dramatic accident unfolded when a large truck lost a tire while driving and a runaway tyre hurtled directly toward a roadside gas station.
Surveillance footage shows several gas station employees sitting at a table near the fuel pumps when the tyre suddenly barrels toward them.
The staff scrambled to dodge the incoming projectile. The tyre grazed the head and ear of one worker before smashing into a nearby wall and a parked vehicle, eventually coming to rest in a field across the road.
One employee suffered minor injuries to the scalp and ear and is currently recovering in hospital. Fortunately, no serious harm occurred.
The gas station’s manager confirmed that the truck driver will take full responsibility. The driver stopped immediately after the incident and contacted both traffic police and his insurance provider.
The cause of the tyre detachment is under further investigation.
