US, Bakersfield: Bakersfield Man Crashes Into Sheriff Tech Unit And Leads Deputies On Chase
Bakersfield, United States - July 20, 2025 07/20/2025 02:27 pm GMT-0700 BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – A man was taken into custody after leading a multi-agency pursuit across northwest Bakersfield, following reports that he allegedly struck a Kern County Sheriff’s Office technician unit and may have been attempting to provoke a “suicide by cop” scenario. The incident began around 2:27 p.m., with initial reports indicating the sheriff’s vehicle was hit near Brimhall Road. The man fled, prompting a pursuit that stretched across major roads including Fruitvale Avenue, Olive Drive, Rosedale Highway, and Buck Owens Boulevard. During the chase, the Kern County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance from the Bakersfield Police Department and California Highway Patrol. Spike strips were deployed in an effort to disable the suspect’s vehicle. The pursuit ended just before 4 p.m. on the 2800 block of Buck Owens Boulevard near the Bakersfield sign, where the man was taken into custody without reported injuries. Initial information suggests the man may have been attempting to force a deadly confrontation with law enforcement. No information has been confirmed. According to initial reports, the man may face charges including assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer, reckless driving, and fleeing and evading.
