Bakersfield, United States - July 23, 2024

07/23/2024 07:35 pm (GMT-0800) | BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – At around 7:30 p.m., the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department was in pursuit of an allegedly stolen Prius on The Old Road in Stevenson Ranch. The chase continued northbound on Interstate 5 near Newhall Ranch Road. The California Highway Patrol's Newhall Division took over the pursuit, eventually entering Kern County, where the Tejon/Bakersfield Division CHP assumed control.

The suspect's vehicle came to a stop on northbound I-5 just before the Taft Highway exit. After about an hour, the suspect was pulled out of the vehicle after his windows were broken and a K-9 unit was deployed. Despite being in handcuffs, the suspect continued to resist arrest. He was given medical aid at the scene and then released to officers.

Both southbound and northbound lanes were shut down during the standoff but have since reopened.

No information has been confirmed by officials at this time.
