On July 19, at the Puyang Zoo in Henan Province, a tigress showed her fierce maternal instincts when she noticed a zookeeper observing her newborn cub.

As soon as the baby tiger poked its head out, the mother quickly and assertively picked it up in her mouth and carried it back into the enclosure, exuding a strong sense of protectiveness.

Nearby, the zookeeper could only call out helplessly: “You won’t even let me take one look? You’re so stingy—what happened to the trust between us?”

Zookeeper Ms. Zhang explained that she had raised the tigress since it was three months old and they had always had a close bond. However, ever since giving birth, the tigress had become suddenly much more alert and no longer allowed anyone near her cubs.

“It’s in a mother tiger’s nature to protect her young,” she said. “She’s afraid someone might take her baby and is guarding against anyone getting close.”
