40-day-old baby dies of starvation in Gaza as Israel’s inhumane war and siege continue

2. INTERVIEW WITH YUSUF’S FATHER, ETHEM AL-SAFEDI
3. FATHER CARRYING HIS DECEASED BABY TO BE BURIED GAZA, PALESTINE - JULY 22: A 40-day-old Palestinian baby has died of hunger and malnutrition in the blockaded Gaza Strip, as Israel’s tightening siege continues to push civilians to the brink of famine.
Yusuf Mohammed al-Safedi died in northern Gaza after his family failed to find baby formula or supplemental food.
His grieving father, Ethem al-Safedi, cradled his lifeless son as he spoke to journalists.
“The baby was only 40 days old,” he said. “There is no baby formula, mothers’ milk has dried up, there is no bread, no food.”
Al-Safedi blamed the crisis on Israel’s blockade and the closure of border crossings that have choked the flow of humanitarian aid.
“All this is because we live under siege,” he said, adding that: “We are starving; we can’t find formula for our children, food for our women. We can’t meet any of our needs.”
The father’s words were heavy with despair: “Forget about us adults — if the whole world cannot send even a single box of formula to Gaza, then it means we will all die.”
Deaths from hunger and malnutrition in Gaza are rising daily as Israel continues to restrict aid into the devastated enclave. Al-Safedi concluded bitterly: “The whole world stands against Gaza.”
Gaza is now facing one of the worst humanitarian disasters in its history. The spread of hunger has accelerated since March 2, when Israeli forces shut all border crossings, halting the entry of food, fuel, and medical aid.
Severe malnutrition symptoms have become widespread, particularly among children and chronically ill patients.
Israel has killed more than 59,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children, in Gaza since October 2023. Relentless bombing has destroyed the enclave, almost collapsed the health system, and created famine-like conditions.
Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
