Phoenix, United States - July 26, 2025 07/26/2025 03:30 am GMT-0700 PHOENIX, Ariz. – Phoenix Police Department patrol units and operators from the Phoenix Police Special Assignments Unit (SWAT) were seen surrounding a sedan in a business parking lot near 35th Avenue and Thunderbird Road around 3:30 AM. Officers at the scene stated that the incident had been ongoing for at least 1 to 2 hours prior to the arrival of the Special Assignments Unit. Special Assignments Unit operators utilized unmarked trucks to pin the sedan in place. Officers were heard issuing verbal commands to the driver of the sedan, ordering him to exit the vehicle. SAU operators approached the vehicle and utilized a breaching tool to break the passenger side window. A short time later, SAU approached the passenger side of the sedan and removed a compact AR-15 from the seat before retreating to cover. Minutes later, SAU approached the sedan and made contact with the suspect inside. The suspect was removed from the sedan and taken into custody. Phoenix FD crews responded to the scene and transported the suspect to a local hospital for precautionary evaluation.
