A devoted pet parrot protected a girl by swooping at her father who was yelling at her.

The sun conure named Chichi sat on Kyla Dantes' shoulder and scanned the room to see who was raising their voice in Manila, the Philippines.

The father, Conrad, is heard in the video shouting: 'What time did you come home last night? Just because you have that bird I cannot discipline you.'

Kyla replied: 'I'm not doing anything to you, I 'm just eating here.'

Before launching its attack, the bird observed Conrad to determine if he would try to touch her.

Footage shows the creature turning to face Conrad before darting toward him to strike and drive him away.

Chichi blocked him from approaching Kyla, who was busy scooping food from the rice cooker as her dad scolded her for coming home late.

The bird then swooped at Conrad again, forcing him to duck and retreat, while Kyla continued her meal with the parrot perched on the couch like it was guarding her.

Mother Kristine, who raised parrots in their house, said: 'Chichi attacked my husband to protect my daughter. They are like siblings sticking together.'
