The blaze began in the Dardanos region for unknown reasons. In a separate incident in Ayvacik district, a landfill fire that spread to nearby forestland was largely contained, with mop-up operations underway. Supported by both aerial and ground units, teams deployed numerous personnel, fire engines, water tankers and heavy machinery to combat the flames. According to the Canakkale Governor’s Office, ground crews worked through the night, and at daylight, seven aircraft and six helicopters joined the response. Authorities said there was no immediate threat to residential areas. The fire has left 77 people hospitalized for smoke inhalation, while 2,090 residents from high-risk areas were evacuated by land and sea. Several buildings were damaged, and locals assisted efforts with water tankers. The Canakkale–Ezine highway, which had been closed and later partially reopened, has now been fully restored to traffic. In Camtepe, advancing flames were halted before reaching the historic Turgut Reis Bastion.
