A woman was found dead with her neck chained to two concrete dumbbells in a canal in Thailand.

The body was discovered by villagers as they were fishing in the Tha Yai Canal in Phang Nga province, two hours north of bustling holiday island Phuket.

The woman was wearing a grey shirt and black shorts and was believed to have been dead for two days.
She was bound to the concrete gym equipment to keep her submerged before she resurfaced near a fish cage on Friday, August 8.

Police were alerted to the grisly discovery at at around 11 am local time. They believe the woman was killed elsewhere before being dumped into the water, as no missing people were reported in the area.

Village council leader Kittiphong Khongboot said: 'The body was female, aged around 30, with her neck tightly wrapped by a chain weighted down by two concrete dumbbells.

‘The person who discovered the body said it was swept by currents between Phang Nga and busy holiday island Phuket. It was carried into the Khlong Yong sea channel, where it became lodged at a fish cage.

‘Based on observations, I believe she was assaulted before she was dumped into the sea.'

Police were deployed on boats on Saturday to inspect the route through which the deceased was believed to have been washed away.

Construction workers in nearby camps and boat repair yards were also questioned to check if any staff were missing.

Police Colonel Woraphong Prom-in, superintendent of Khok Kloi Police Station, said: 'The investigation aims to identify whether the deceased is a Thai or Burmese worker from either Phang Nga or Phuket.

‘We have sent the body to the forensic department at Vachira Phuket Hospital for examination. As of now, the victim's identity is still unknown.'
