Winds of up to 100mph whipped through the streets of Oklahoma.

Dramatic footage captured by storm chaser Chance Coldiron shows a front garden being battered by powerful gusts, with a tree swaying violently and appearing to suffer damage in Moore on August 11.

Chance said: 'Don't break my tree! That is a downburst!'

Authorities later confirmed that a microburst had struck Moore as storms swept across the Oklahoma City metro area on Monday.

A microburst is a sudden, intense downdraft of air within a thunderstorm that spreads outward upon hitting the ground, often causing significant damage similar to that of a tornado, but without the rotation.
