-BOGOTA, COLOMBIA - AUG. 13, 2025: The funeral of Colombian senator and presidential candidate Miguel Uribe Turbay was held Wednesday, Aug. 13, at Bogotá’s Central Cemetery, with family, friends, and supporters in attendance. Turbay’s wife, 4-year-old son, father, and other relatives joined mourners at the ceremony, which included military honors at the burial site of several prominent Colombian figures. The 39-year-old lawmaker died Monday, more than two months after being shot during a campaign rally in western Bogotá. He had been hospitalized since June 7, when he was struck twice in the head and once in the left leg while addressing supporters in the city’s Modelia neighborhood. “I ask God to show me the way to learn to live without you,” his wife, María Claudia Tarazona, wrote on social media. “Rest in peace, love of my life, I will take care of our children.” Turbay underwent two surgeries at Santa Fe Hospital following the attack but never recovered. Authorities have not publicly identified a motive or suspect in the shooting.
