The two tiger cubs were born on July 12, 2025, to a female Bengal tiger (Panthera tigris tigris) named Jelita, aged 4.5 years, and a male Bengal tiger (Panthera tigris tigris) named Sarukh Khan, aged 22 years.
Two Bengal Tigers Born at Bandung Zoo
Bandung,
Bandung Zoo has once again expanded its animal collection. This time, two Bengal tiger cubs were born.
The two Bengal tiger cubs were born naturally at dawn on Saturday, July 12, 2025. Both are male, born to the female mother Jelita (4.5 years old) and the male father Shah Rukh Khan (22 years old).
“Alhamdulillah, we have added two Bengal tiger cubs to our collection,” said Sulhan Syafi'i, the spokesperson for Bandung Zoo.
Both cubs are being cared for by their mother in the night enclosure. There, the keepers provide a straw bed to add warmth. The straw is replaced every three days to ensure it remains fresh and sterile.
The two Bengal tiger cubs began nursing from their mother on the first day. They are being cared for very well by their mother. By the seventh day, both cubs had opened their eyes and begun crawling in the night enclosure. In the past week, both cubs have become increasingly agile in their movements.
The veterinary team, nutrition team, and keepers continue to monitor the health of the two cubs. For their diet, Jelita is given a combination of chicken and beef. This diet is provided to maintain milk production, which is the primary nutrition for tiger cubs. As of now, the two Bengal tiger cubs have not been named.
“The plan is to find foster parents for them. But that might have to wait until conditions are more conducive,” explained Sulhan.
The two cubs and their mother remain in the night enclosure at one of the enclosures.
