Historic church lifted and moved to new location in Sweden
A historic church was carefully lifted and relocated in Sweden after mining operations destabilised the ground beneath it.
Footage shows the 113-year-old Kiruna Church, considered one of Sweden's most cherished landmarks, resting on a colossal transport platform, slowly making its way through the town as onlookers watched in awe.
The red wooden church was moved due to the risk of ground subsidence caused by extensive iron ore mining in the area.
Authorities said the relocation process took two days, with the building resettled 5 kilometres from its original site in Kiruna on August 20.
Kiruna Church, inaugurated in 1912, is one of Sweden's largest wooden buildings and weighs approximately 672 tonnes. Designed by architect Gustav Wickman, the church features National Romantic architecture with influences from Norwegian stave churches and Sami design motifs.
