This is the dramatic moment a kitten trapped under a car was rescued by a mechanic in South Carolina.

A resident driving along Bluffton Parkway spotted the tiny feline darting across the road. Concerned for its safety, he and his son pulled over to search, but could not locate the kitten.

Just as they prepared to continue driving, faint meowing was heard from beneath the vehicle.

The pair returned and, unable to free the kitten, drove straight to Fire Station 30 on Burnt Church Road for assistance.

On-duty firefighters searched but could not reach the creature, which was wedged too deeply to be seen. When the crew was dispatched to a medical call, they contacted the Fire District maintenance shop for help.

Footage shows Senior Mechanic Tyler Williams inspecting the vehicle before carefully pulling out the white-and-black kitten, which appeared reluctant to leave her hiding spot.

A spokesman from the Bluffton Township Fire Department said: 'The kitten, now affectionately named Flash for her quick dash across the roadway, is recovering at the Beaufort County Animal Shelter, gaining weight and doing well as she prepares for adoption or fostering.'
