Army destroys illegal mine in remote mountains of Ecuador
This is the dramatic moment the army destroyed an illegal mine in the remote mountains of Ecuador.
The military, in coordination with the Mining Regulation and Control Agency (ARCOM), carried out mining control operations in Azuay province.
During the activity, three mine shafts that lacked the proper legal documentation were destroyed in the San Gerardo sector of Camilo Ponce Enriquez canton.
Footage shows the controlled explosion demolishing the mine tunnels on December 11, sending a plume of dust and smoke into the air.
The force said: 'The Ecuadorian Army, through Artillery Group No. 1 Bolivar, reaffirms its commitment to show no mercy to illegal mining throughout the national territory.'
