Torrential rains have resulted in the evacuation of 14,626 residents in Dandong City in northeast China's Liaoning Province since the beginning of this year's flood season. The city has experienced six rounds of heavy rainfall since June 1. During the strongest round of rain between July 20 and 22, the average daily rainfall reached 78 mm, with up to 281 mm falling in one day. By Thursday, cumulative rainfall in the city during the flood season reached 801.5 mm, 3.1 percent more than the average of 777.2 mm in the same period in previous years.
