This is the terrifying moment a village was battered by flash floods in northern Thailand.

Footage shows the muddy deluge surging into a residential compound in Nan following heavy rain on July 11.

Residents moved their belongings to the upper floors of their homes as the water level reached more than three feet.

Locals in the Nam Muap sub-district said it was 'the heaviest flood in several years' that they have experienced.

The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation issued flash flood and landslide warnings across 16 northern Thai provinces, including Nan, last week.

Thailand and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are at the start of their annual monsoon rainy season which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms. The rudimentary infrastructure often struggles with the deluge, leading to widespread flash floods.
