On 22 August in Jinggangshan, Jiangxi, Mr Yang was driving on a trip when he stopped his car to give way to an egret ahead. To his surprise, instead of moving off, the egret flew onto his bonnet and refused to leave, no matter how many times he honked.

Left with no choice, Mr Yang continued driving slowly, effectively giving the egret a “lift.”

Video shows the bird standing firmly on the bonnet, swaying slightly as the car turned, maintaining a calm and composed posture.

Mr Yang said the egret remained in place for more than 10 kilometres before finally flying off near wetlands on the edge of the county.
