Flood Havoc in Himachal: CCTV Captures Sultanpur, Chamba Under Torrential Rains — 312 Dead Across State, Pilgrimage Halted, Relief Ops in Full Swing”
On August 26, CCTV footage from Sultanpur in Chamba captures a chilling moment — a small stream suddenly swells into a raging torrent, flooding the streets and sweeping through the area with terrifying force.
This haunting clip reflects the broader reality across Himachal Pradesh, where relentless monsoon rains have unleashed widespread destruction.
Since June 20, 312 people have lost their lives to rain-related disasters, including landslides and flash floods. The estimated damages have crossed ₹3,042 crore, with roads, bridges, homes, and farmlands devastated.
According to the India Meteorological Department, August 2025 has recorded the heaviest rainfall in northwestern India since 2001, with Himachal among the worst-hit states. Over 265 mm of rainfall was recorded, well above the seasonal average — and forecasters warn that September is also likely to bring above-normal rainfall.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has conducted aerial surveys of flood-hit districts including Chamba and Kangra. Relief operations are being carried out on a war footing, with roads being restored, electricity lines repaired, and essential supplies rushed to stranded communities.
The famous Manimahesh pilgrimage was halted midway, as thousands of devotees were left stranded due to road blockages. The National Disaster Response Force has since rescued over 3,200 pilgrims by helicopter and ground operations.
In the state assembly, the government has urged the Centre to declare this year’s monsoon devastation a national calamity and extend special financial relief to rebuild the battered hill state.
The Sultanpur CCTV footage is not just a local incident — it is a stark reminder of the fury of nature that has brought Himachal Pradesh to its knees. From Chamba to Kangra and Kullu, the struggle for survival and recovery continues, as the state battles one of its worst monsoon disasters in recent memory.
