ARTISTS AND ACTIVISTS DELIVER SPEECHESBRUSSELS, BELGIUM - SEPTEMBER 2: Artists and activists gathered in front of the Royal Theatre of La Monnaie in the Belgian capital city of Brussels on Tuesday, Sept. 2, to stage a demonstration themed “The Silence of Gaza’s Children.” Waving Palestinian flags, participants held banners and delivered messages such as “Silence is complicity while children are being killed,” urging the world not to remain indifferent. Speakers at the rally recalled the suffering of children in Gaza and called on the international community to take urgent action. They also stressed that the cultural and artistic community should not stay silent in the face of the crisis. Organizers said the event aimed to draw public attention to the humanitarian situation in Gaza and to give a voice to children who are among the most vulnerable victims of war. Health officials in Gaza reported that more than 43,000 children aged under 5 are suffering from malnutrition, alongside 55,000 pregnant and breastfeeding women. They added that 67% of pregnant women are now anemic, the most alarming rate documented in years. The ministry warned of catastrophic consequences if emergency food and medical supplies are not delivered immediately, citing the rapid escalation of hunger-related deaths. Israel has killed more than 63,500 Palestinians in Gaza since October 2023. The military campaign has devastated the enclave, which is facing famine. Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
