Storyline: The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said in a statement on Sunday that it had launched a new wave of strikes against Hamas militant targets in the southern Gaza Strip. According to the statement, the strikes were led by the IDF's Southern Command "following a ceasefire violation earlier in the day." An IDF spokesperson stated that over recent hours, Israeli warplanes, air force aircraft, and artillery had struck dozens of Hamas facilities, including weapon storage sites, military installations, and launch positions. In addition, fighter jets dropped more than 120 munitions to bomb an underground Hamas tunnel approximately six kilometers long. The Israeli army said two soldiers were killed when Hamas fired an anti-tank missile and opened fire on troops dismantling infrastructure in Rafah, an incident it cited as a breach of the ceasefire. An Israeli military official said there were at least three such incidents on Sunday. The Israeli Prime Minister's Office said in a statement that, in light of Hamas's violations, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had instructed the military to act forcefully against targets in the Gaza Strip. Netanyahu also ordered the suspension of humanitarian aid deliveries to Gaza until further notice. So far, no Palestinian faction has claimed responsibility. Al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, said on Sunday it "affirms its full commitment" to the ceasefire across the Gaza Strip and denied any knowledge of incidents or clashes in Rafah. In a statement, al-Qassam described Rafah as a "red zone" under Israeli army control and said contact with its remaining units there has been cut off since the resumption of fighting in March 2025. It added that it has no information on whether those fighters are alive or dead and therefore cannot be linked to or confirm any events occurring in the area. Meanwhile, Hamas Political Bureau member Izzat al-Rishq said in a statement that, "Hamas affirms its full commitment to the ceasefire agreement and stresses that it is the Zionist occupation that continues to violate the agreement and fabricate flimsy pretexts to justify its crimes." On Sunday evening, the IDF announced the reinstatement of the Gaza Strip ceasefire. The military emphasized it would continue to adhere to the agreement and respond firmly to any future violations. A Hamas delegation led by Hamas's senior official Khalil al-Hayya arrived in Cairo, Egypt on Sunday. The group stated that the delegation would work with mediators and other Palestinian factions to follow up on the implementation of the Gaza ceasefire agreement. Israel and Hamas have exchanged accusations of violating a ceasefire agreement that has been in effect since Oct 10. The truce was brokered by Egypt, Qatar, and Türkiye, with U.S. support, following indirect negotiations between the two sides. Under the agreement, both parties committed to the cessation of hostilities, the exchange of prisoners and detainees, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from certain areas of the enclave, and the entry of humanitarian aid and fuel to enable medical and relief teams to resume their operations.
