On 6 September in Zhengzhou, Henan, a man driving encountered four people who had set up a table for a meal directly on the roadway.

Dashcam footage showed the table occupying part of the public road, with the four seated and eating, making no attempt to move aside for approaching vehicles.

The behaviour sparked heated discussion online. Some joked it was “the last supper,” while others seriously pointed out the severe safety risks and reported the incident to Henan traffic police.

Traffic police staff explained that such conduct not only violates traffic regulations but also poses a direct threat to road safety. Under China’s Road Traffic Safety Law, pedestrians are prohibited from sitting, lying, lingering, or playing on the carriageway. Offenders may face warnings or fines, and if an accident results, those responsible will bear legal liability.
