On 9 September in Zhoushan, Zhejiang, a man captured an astonishing scene in his fish tank.

Video footage showed a small mandarin fish swallowing another fish in the tank, only to immediately expel it. The expelled fish was not only completely unharmed but also still lively and swimming around.

The man explained that mandarin fish are typically carnivorous and feed on live fish. He had been keeping this young mandarin fish for just a week, feeding it small fish caught from the river.

He originally wanted to film the fish eating, but instead recorded this unusual moment. He suggested the incident may have happened because the mandarin fish lacked hunting experience or because the prey was too large, leading it to pass the live fish straight through.

He added that the mandarin fish itself is healthy, though its anus was slightly torn, so he has temporarily switched to feeding it pellets instead of live fish.
