US: UNGA passes resolution endorsing two-state solution declaration on Palestinian-Israeli issue
The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Friday overwhelmingly passed a draft resolution endorsing the New York Declaration on the peaceful settlement of the question of Palestine and the implementation of the two-state solution. The draft resolution, co-sponsored by over 40 countries, including France, Saudi Arabia, and China, received 142 votes in favor, 10 against, and 12 abstentions. The U.S. and Israel voted against the draft resolution. The New York Declaration covers key topics on implementing the two-state solution, including a ceasefire in Gaza, opposition to unilateral actions, and support for governance and development in the State of Palestine, with the ultimate goal of achieving regional integrity. The 80th General Assembly decided last Friday to resume the High-level International Conference for the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution on Sept 22. Leaders from multiple countries are expected to formally recognize the State of Palestine at the conference.
