5. POLICE OFFICERS PATROLLING AT BORDER AREA (TWO SHOTS) MAHARAJGANJ, INDIA - SEPT. 13: Ongoing protests in Nepal have disrupted cross-border trade, leading to long queues of trucks stranded at the Sonauli border, India, a key transit point between the two countries.

At the Sonauli border crossing in Uttar Pradesh’s Maharajganj district, more than 200 Indian truck drivers remain stranded due to unrest on the Nepalese side.

An 8-kilometer-long line of trucks has formed at the border as drivers voiced fears over safety and possible attacks.

Authorities stated that cross-border traffic would remain operational under strict controls until security conditions improve.

In Nepal, President Ramchandra Poudel dissolved the parliament on Friday shortly after naming former Chief Justice SushilaKarki, 73, as interim prime minister, following days of youth-led "Gen Z" protests that toppled KP Sharma Oli’s government.

The dissolution of the parliament was a major demand by protest leaders.

At least 51 people were killed and many others injured in this week's mass protests triggered by a ban on social media platforms. The protests evolved into a broader movement against alleged corruption and nepotism among the political elite, with demonstrators targeting residences, the Supreme Court, and other public buildings.
