Shooting star whizzes across sky in central Argentina
This is the stunning moment a bright shooting star whizzed across the night sky in central Argentina.
Footage captured by Vane Wilberger shows the spectacular meteor blazing across the horizon in La Pampa on September 13.
One observer reported a white terminal flash accompanied by fragmentation and a glowing trail that persisted for approximately 90 seconds.
Some residents also reported hearing explosion-like sounds and feeling vibrations in rural areas, although no impact sites have been confirmed so far.
Meteors are created when meteoroids enter Earth's atmosphere at high speeds, causing friction that heats the meteoroid and the surrounding air. This process causes the meteoroid to melt and vaporise, creating a bright trail of light.
