China: China's major city clusters log foreign trade growth in first eight months

Storyline: China's major city clusters recorded growth in total goods imports and exports in the first eight months of this year, according to customs data. During the January-August period, north China's Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region registered 3.06 trillion yuan (about 429.83 billion U.S. dollars) in foreign trade, with exports increasing by 4.3 percent, maintaining growth for five consecutive months. Private enterprises in the region demonstrated strong vitality, with export value exceeding 400 billion yuan for the first time, a 14.1-percent increase. High-tech product exports reached nearly 200 billion yuan, exemplifying the region's core competitive advantages. In the same period, nine mainland cities in south China's Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area posted 5.98 trillion yuan in imports and exports, a 4.5-percent growth, accounting for 20.2 percent of the country's total trade in goods. Exports of self-owned brands reached 884 billion yuan, up 12.6 percent. Import demand was strong, with imports of high-end equipment, closely related to new quality productive forces, reaching 103.27 billion yuan, a rise by 37.4 percent.
