Storyline: Chinese-made short dramas taking global audiences by storm [Voice_over] Chinese-made mini-dramas are building a strong following overseas, with industry experts predicting global revenue could soon reach 10 billion U.S. dollars. The series' are compact - typically lasting just minutes per episode - but packed with dramatic twists,and are available in more than 200 countries and regions. Northwest China's Xi'an City is home to more than 600 short drama studios and has become a key production hub. One American short drama actor talked about how far ahead China is compared to the U.S. when it comes to mini-drama production. [Sound_bite] American short drama actor: "As far as I know, the ratio between Los Angeles and China, well, Los Angeles is shooting one and China is shooting 10.There is definitely a lot of more opportunities here, which is also great for young, film-hungry actors who wanna make something cool, make something great, like these guys over here." [Voice_over] Since the beginning of this year, Xi'an has seen a sharp increase in the number of short dramas targeting international audiences. [Sound_bite] Li Tao, General Manager, advertising culture communication company: "In 2024, we only produced four or five overseas dramas. But so far this year, we've already shot nearly 20. We've seen a major shift in supply and demand in the overseas market, and a clear increase in demand for short-drama content." [Voice_over] Data from Sensor Tower, a San Francisco-based analytics and market intelligence platform shows that in the first quarter of this year, global in-app purchase revenue for short drama platforms surged to nearly 700 million U.S. dollars - a staggering fourfold increase compared to Q1 last year.
