China: Central China's Zhengzhou scripts new playbook for short drama production
Storyline: Central China's Zhengzhou scripts new playbook for short drama production [Voice_over] Known as one of the cradles of Chinese civilization, the city of Zhengzhou is also emerging as a powerhouse in the country's fast-growing short drama industry. Home to nearly 1000 short-drama enterprises that employ more than 30,000 people, the city has created a full industrial chain for the industry, from set construction and equipment leasing to talent sourcing. Production bases across the city are reporting unprecedented demand, as studios flock to capitalize on the industrial chain to drive down costs and slash production timelines. At this studio-a converted industrial park- sound stages are fully booked through late September, with an average of 8-12 crews shooting simultaneously each day. [Sound_bite] Sun Xike, Head of Creative Cultural Tourism Industry Department, Zhengzhou Airport Economy Zone: "We have built over 20 filming sets here including courtrooms, hospitals, and CEO offices. Over the past year, the facility has hosted more than 800 film crews and completed over 620 short drama productions." [Sound_bite] Zheng Liming, Short drama producer: "The accommodation and transportation are very convenient. The local film vehicle fleet is particularly mature and offers very competitive pricing. I estimate our production costs have been reduced by at least 30 percent." [Voice_over] The local government has embraced the industry's growth. In August, plans were unveiled to establish Zhengzhou as a "micro-drama creation capital" over the next two years, with a targeted market size of more than one billion U.S. dollars.
