Storyline China produces over 3,000 short dramas monthly in 2025 China's miniseries industry experienced explosive growth in 2025 with data showing there were roughly 3,000 dramas produced every month. Part of the industry's success lies in the various minidrama production clusters around the country. For example, in terms of distribution, central China's Henan Province accounts for about 25 percent of the national output. In terms of subject matter, Hengdian World Studios in eastern China's Zhejiang Province is the preferred production site for nearly 90 percent of the nation's period dramas. And in terms of post-production, the industrial cluster in Xi'an City in northwest China's Shaanxi Province produces between 40 and 60 percent of the nation's annual dramas. The market size of China's short drama industry grew from 140 million U.S. dollars in the year 2020 to more than seven billion in 2024, creating nearly 700,000 jobs.
