Displaced Palestinians are facing huge risks just to have the chance to receive a small amount of daily necessities, with humanitarian organizations highlighting how difficult and desperate the current aid situation is amid the continuing Israeli onslaught on the Gaza Strip. Aid distribution points run by the U.S.-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation have turned into danger zones, with multiple civilians reportedly losing their lives while simply trying to get their hands on a basic bag of flour or lentils. The UN human rights office said early last month that nearly 1,400 Palestinians have been killed or injured when getting food at or near sites run by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation since late May. Like so many children in Gaza, 12-year-old Marah Nabhan has been forced to shoulder responsibilities far beyond her age. She is forced to walk long distances along dangerous roads, amid piles of rubble, risking her life every day in search of a bag of flour to feed her family. "I came to the area where the trucks are because my father is injured. I had to pass by close to the Israeli soldiers to get a bag of flour. I wish the trucks were safe to go to. We're so tired of life. So many killed, so many wounded, our families dying. I'm the eldest. I only have one little brother who's ten years old. We fear for him because he's all we have. My father waited for me inside (the camp) as he was injured, while I went to the trucks near [Israeli] tanks just to get food," she said. While the journey to receive such essential supplies is treacherous, much of this desperately-needed aid rarely reaches Gaza. The UN World Food Programme reported in early August that less than half of its targeted food aid had actually been delivered into Gaza in the previous days. It also warned that acute malnutrition is projected to continue worsening rapidly, with at least 132,000 children aged under 5 at risk of death through to June 2026. Despite everything, some local and international aid organizations are still doing all they can to try to get more urgent aid supplies into the enclave. "It’s impossible for one international organization to cover all of Gaza. We're talking about 2.3 million people. To prepare just 1,000 parcels, traders need two days to collect small amounts from different farms. That's one of the challenges. Farmers also face the problem of lacking the raw materials to raise these crops in Gaza; the lack of fertile lands; and the whole of Gaza is considered a red zone, which led to many of the farmers to be injured or killed in these dangerous areas," said Anas Al-Shambari, a relief worker of FAJR Scientific, an NGO dedicated to providing life-saving medical, humanitarian, and educational services to vulnerable populations. Aid workers themselves are struggling to keep going under these awful circumstances, with some reportedly collapsing on the job. They work under bombardment, share the people's hunger, and watch children faint from malnutrition. Yet they fulfill their duty to help whomever they can. "Finding the [right] distribution point is important. Because large gatherings can be targeted, so we try to coordinate as much as possible to protect both the people and our teams," Al-Shambari said. An assessment made by several UN agencies and the World Health Organization (WHO) had projected that over 640,000 people were set to face catastrophic food insecurity by the end of September, with an additional 1.14 million at emergency levels and nearly 400,000 in crisis conditions.famine in Gaza City is now spreading southward to Deir al-Balah and Khan Younis. Meanwhile, the Palestinian death toll in the Gaza Strip has risen to 65,344, with close to 167,000 injured since the conflict between Hamas and Israel erupted on Oct 7, 2023, Gaza's health authorities said in a statement on Monday.
