2. VARIOUS OF EMERGENCY WORKERS OPERATING NEAR SINKHOLE BANGKOK, THAILAND - SEPT. 24: A massive sinkhole that opened near a hospital in Thailand’s capital Bangkok on Wednesday, Sept. 24, disrupted traffic and cut off public utilities.

Authorities said the sinkhole, measuring about 50 meters deep and 900 square meters wide, appeared in front of Vajira Hospital.

Emergency crews have launched efforts to secure the site, while traffic in the area came to a standstill.

Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul stated that the collapse was caused by soil displacement linked to an underground train line construction project, adding that no casualties were reported.

Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt said a burst pipe at the site led to power and water outages in the surrounding area.
