Built between the 10th and 13th centuries and dedicated to St. Stephen, one of Jesus' apostles, the church was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2008.
Surrounded by thick red sandstone walls and nestled in a mountainous valley, the church reflects influences from Urartian, Parthian, and Roman civilizations.
Known as one of the most significant examples of Armenian architecture, it remains a site of spiritual and cultural significance for tourists and pilgrims alike.
