Hundreds of 'terror supporters' arrested at Palestine Action protest in London
Hundreds of suspected terror supporters were arrested during a banned Palestine Action protest in London.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed that 488 people were apprehended during a demonstration in Trafalgar Square, where participants defied the government's ban on the extremist group.
Reports said the vigil began at 1 pm on October 5 and lasted for six and a half hours.
The latest arrests bring the total number of those detained for challenging the ban to more than 2,000 since it was introduced in July.
Among those arrested were Elizabeth Morley, a 79-year-old Jewish daughter of a Holocaust survivor, Muhammad Rabbani, Managing Director of CAGE International, and Reverend Sue Parfitt, an 83-year-old Anglican priest.
Elderly and disabled protesters were also detained, including a blind man and two people using mobility wheelchairs. Each held a sign reading, 'I oppose genocide, I support Palestine Action'.
Defend Our Juries condemned the arrests as 'an extraordinary affront to democracy', accusing the Labour Government of 'criminalising those trying to save lives in Palestine'.
The organisation announced a significant escalation in defiance of the ban, with mass civil disobedience planned between November 18 and 28 ahead of a High Court review.
The government enacted the ban on Palestine Action under counter-terrorism legislation following incidents in which paint was sprayed on aircraft at RAF Brize Norton.
