A housewife amused onlookers when she calmly turned off a gas tank - instead of using a cloth during a fire safety demonstration.

Footage shows Christine Jeddah Bombeza-Singcay approaching flames pouring from a leaking cylinder before turning the knob in Lanao del Norte, the Philippines.

Christine then casually handed the fabric to a firefighter who was conducting the fire safety training.

As she walked back to her friends, onlookers burst into laughter while the officers smiled, impressed by how smoothly her demonstration went.

She said: 'There was a fire drill at the mall where I used to work. All tenants were required to attend. It happened to be my first time joining a fire drill, so I decided to participate.

'When the Bureau of Fire Protection officer asked for a volunteer, I tried it. Everyone had already shown how to use the towel, so I decided to do the simple thing and try turning it off with my bare hands instead.'
